Demonstrating Leadership in the LNC
Industry. Among the wealth of information provided
to NALNC Members only by NALNC, NALNC has created and maintains
the first and only national database of cases dealing
exclusively with
Nurse Malpractice,
Nursing Standards of Care,
Nurse Negligence and
Court Cases
involving LNCs. In addition, NALNC provides a
national database of recent medical malpractice cases for
all 50 states (available to members only). These cases provide valuable insight to
the legal-medical community and should be carefully studied
by all LNCs.
Note: The Court opinions come from the
courts and various other fee-based and free sources; the
database, however, was created, indexed, and is maintained
by NALNC. NALNC claims no copyright to the actual
court opinions. NALNC does, however, own the copyright
on the database, index of cases, summaries of cases and the

How LNCs benefit the legal-medical community:
Legal Nurse Consultants work as a liaison
between the legal and health care professions
utilizing their nursing experience in a number
of ways, such as interpretation of medical
information and by offering insight into
compliance with standards of care and whether
alleged wrongful acts are related to claimed
injuries and damages. Our Certified Legal Nurse
Consultants are taught LNC standards of
practice, Nursing Standards of Care,
fundamentals of the law, the litigation process,
court procedures, expert witness rules, report
writing, ethics and testimony skills.
Most LNCs are principals in private practice
and work by hourly rate or contract terms.
On an average, you can expect to pay from $75 to
$150 per hour for a qualified LNC. Other
LNCs work in law firms specializing in personal
injury, medical malpractice, toxic torts,
product liability and workers' compensation,
insurance companies, hospitals, government
agencies, and risk management organizations.
Services provided by LNCs include:
- Review, analyze and interpret medical
records and related medical documents and
prepare reports succinctly summarizing that
information.
- Act as a consultant on health care
issues to attorneys in diverse legal
settings.
- Identify standard of care issues and
relationship to claimed injuries and
damages.
- Develop and build a practice as an
